Mitchell “Ed” Edward Elm, 72, entered into the spirit world on July 8, 2014. Born on March 12, 1942, in Red Springs to Bertha Elm (McGee) and Mitchell Elm Jr., Mitchell lived in Northern California for the past few decades and passed away in Ukiah, California.

A pickup truck involved in a brief chase in the city early Monday morning was one of three vehicles reported stolen over the span of a few hours, according to Shawano police. The pickup was later involved in a crash, and another vehicle has since been recovered. The third vehicle was still unaccounted for as of Tuesday afternoon. The chain of events started shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Financial disclosure statements turned in this week show Shawano police officer Adam Bieber outspending incumbent Randy Wright in the Republican primary race for Shawano County sheriff. Wright, however, has taken in more contributions and has a significant cash balance going forward. Wright and Bieber are both vying for the Republican nomination for sheriff in the Aug. 12 primary. Bonduel 11, Shawano 0 Jack Reinke pitched a shutout to stymie the Shawano Lakers in the first game of the Shawano Dairyland tournament Monday at Martzke Park. Reinke allowed two hits in five innings, struck out three and walked four.

Shawano teams had second- and fourth-place finishes over the weekend at the 12U and 11U Shawano Youth League baseball tournaments at Memorial Park. In the 12U tournament, Shawano took second. Suburban won the tournament. Escanaba was third and Peshtigo took fourth. Shawano was fourth in the 11U tournament. Wausaukee was first, Kimberly second and Oshkosh North third. This is the second of three tournament weekends for the Shawano Youth League.

Don Gruenewald is stepping down as the Bonduel High School varsity baseball coach, ending his four-year run as the Bears’ skipper. Gruenewald, who finishes with a 54-35 record and coached the Bears to a WIAA Division 3 regional championship in 2013, said he felt it was time to go. “It was nothing to do with kids, parents, administration or anything like that,” he said.

Cody Siolka provided the highlight for an inexperienced Shawano Ski Sharks team at the 48th annual Wisconsin State Water Ski Show championship last week in Wisconsin Rapids. Siolka placed second in the individual freestyle jump Thursday. “He was competing against all the pro skiers across the state, and he did an amazing job,” teammate Brad Keuschel said.
