The Shawano Community High School girls basketball team’s defense, as it did in its season opener against White Lake Friday night, held its opponent under 40 points. It wasn’t enough, though, to get a win over Bonduel on the road Tuesday. Bonduel, coming off scoring 80 points against Coleman, won the game 37-29. Shawano (0-2) and Bonduel (3-0) struggled to get their offenses going throughout the game.

Lee “Leo” White Jr. passed on into the Spirit World on Sunday evening, Nov. 23, 2014, in Keshena, surrounded by his loving family. Leo was born on June 28, 1955, to Lee White, Sr. and the late Clara Jean (Beauprey) White. Leo attended Shawano High School and upon finishing his schooling he began employment with MTE as a logger and truck driver. Besides his enjoyment of working in the woods, Leo loved to golf, fish, and hunt.

KelliAnn E. Boswell, 18, of Birnamwood, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. KelliAnn was born on Oct. 14, 1996, in Minneapolis to Hope LeMieux. KelliAnn was currently a senior at Wittenberg High School and worked at Jewel’s Nail Salon. Having been told she had the voice of an angel, KelliAnn enjoyed singing in the choir.

There will a split of the annual Holiday Stroll and the annual Santa parade in downtown Shawano this year. Shawano’s Business Improvement District, sponsors of the event, opted to schedule the Holiday Stroll this Saturday, with the parade slated for Dec. 5. “This year, we tried to take the holiday stroll away and make it on a different day,” said Marissa Rycroft, Shawano BID coordinator.

Jerry Georg Jr., 13, of Plymouth, was looking for his first deer ever opening day of the 2014 gun deer season, after not having luck last season. Georg did not wait long. By the time the morning was over Georg had filled his and his father’s tag with a doe and a yearling. “It was exciting. I was pumped up,” Georg said. “The first shot was good. It was in the heart. Then it ran 20 to 30 yards.

Jeff “Huey” Pierquet, 66, Stiles, died peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 22, 2014, at Aurora hospital, with Sandy by his side. He lived with CLL leukemia for the last 13 years. Jeff was born March 1, 1948. His parents, Marvin and Jeanette (Pohlman) Pierquet, raised Jeff in Green Bay where he graduated from Preble High School with the Class of 1966. On Feb. 10, 1973, he married Sandra Heraly-Groves, and they had 41-plus years together.

Lennice Mae (Courchaine) Swearingen, 70, village of Lena, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014. She was born March 3, 1944, in the town of Little River to Lawrence and Lucille (Dunk) Courchaine. Preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Swearingen, parents, three brothers and three sisters. She was a graduate of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in nursing and was employed at Jones Nursing Home until her retirement.

The November meeting of the Oconto Falls Lions included a double recognition ceremony for President Bret Iverson’s Lion of the Month award. Leonard Burns was recognized as the October Lion of the Month in recognition of another successful season of Panther football raffles at Memorial Field.
