Ainsworths create history at all-star softball game

Courtney and Nicki Ainsworth not only created a family memory at the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches senior all-star game Tuesday, they also were the first Shawano Community High School duo to appear in more than a decade. Strong pitching key to Bonduel Legion success
Bonduel returns for another season of Class A American Legion baseball with a new field manager and a team comprised mostly of Bonduel High School varsity players. After manning the dugout for four years, Jason Luepke opted to step aside and instead oversee the operations as team manager.

Ruth M. Hanson
Ruth Marjorie Hanson, of Gresham, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2015, at the age of 84. Ruth was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Appleton, the second of two daughters of Rudolf and Emma Hersekorn. Ruth led an active and accomplished life of public service. Her adult life started at St. Luke’s Hospital of Nursing in Chicago, where she was licensed as a registered nurse.

Frank C. Heller Sr.
Frank Charles Heller Sr., 83, passed away June 19, 2015, at Aurora Hospital in Green Bay. Frank was born in Bonduel on Jan. 27, 1932, the son of the late Alfred and Hildegard (Boettcher) Heller. While in grade school, Frank helped operate the family homestead. While attending Bonduel High School, he took great interest in the agricultural classes and applied what he had learned to improve the quality of his herd as well as the soil on the farm.

Doris C. Kerry
Doris C. Kerry, 88, of Shawano, passed away on June 11, 2015, in Shawano. Doris was born on Nov. 27, 1926, in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Reinhard P. and Margaret (Heindl) Hoffmann. She was united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1947, at St. Mary’s in Kaukauna to John “Jack” Kerry. In 1959, they moved to the Shawano area and together raised four children.

Melissa Jo Szucs
Melissa Jo Szucs, 15, of Shawano, peacefully left this world surrounded by her loving family after a 13-year battle with cancer on June 18, 2015. Melissa was born in Shawano on Oct. 3, 1999, to James and Vicky (Brockman) Szucs. She attended Shawano High School and recently completed her freshman year. Melissa loved life, especially when spending time at Grandpa Jim’s cabin or in Bill and Joan’s trailer.

Much good news to share about city
“When you think positive, good things happen.” — Matt Kemp There are so many good things happening in Shawano lately, I hardly know where to begin. I will start by sharing this story of “friends helping friends.” One of our city employees, Dohn Dallmann, is fighting cancer and receiving treatment. There are many expenses insurance doesn’t cover. His co-workers at the Shawano Public Works Department decided to pitch in.

Letter: State needs to reverse course on voucher program
To the editor: The first School Choice Program was created in the Milwaukee schools by the state Legislature in 1989 to allow children of poverty who were not learning to attend a school of their parents’ choice, which in essence meant attending a religious school. Strong, good dads
I’ve been blessed to have been raised by a strong, good dad. Dad was a godly, hardworking, reliable, loving, trustworthy good man. He and Mom set a solid Christian example and raised us kids to be responsible, pay our bills on time, be kind, have confidence in ourselves, and be independent and hardworking.
