An Oconto Falls man who goes to trial in December for allegedly killing a teenager 15 years ago was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for child pornography. Peter J. Hanson, 52, will also spend 12 years on probation and pay a $26,000 surcharge, Oconto County Circuit Court Judge Michael Judge ruled Friday. Hanson entered no contest pleas to 52 counts of possession of child pornography for images found on his computer Nov. 1, 2012.

Taxpayers in the Oconto Falls School District will pay more to support education this year, and school officials say state lawmakers are to blame. State aid to the school district was reduced by $328,000, or 3 percent, for the 2013-14 school year.

The Oconto County Fairest of the Fair Committee will host a special event for children, Ice Cream with the Fairest, at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Honey Park, located at the fairgrounds in Gillett. Kids are invited for ice cream and activities to learn what it’s like to be the Oconto County Fairest of the Fair.

As with the start of any new season on the path around the Falls, a review of the rules, especially any changes, is a good idea. This advice applies most often when it comes to sports. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) sanctions all high school sports activities in Wisconsin. Its pattern is to have a rules meeting with coaches and officials well in advance of each season.

Howard L. Johnson, 90, was born Dec. 23, 1921, to Leonard and Mary (Krueger) Johnson and passed away May 13, 2012. Muriel D. Johnson, 84, was born April 8, 1923, to Harold and Viola (Ballheim) Muehl and passed away Feb. 29, 2008. They were married April 14, 1945.

Fred Leisner, 100, of Westcott Lake Road, Pound, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at home in the loving care of his daughters and family. The son of the late John and Agnes Leisner was born on Nov. 10, 1912, in Marinette. He was married to Esther Kostreva on Sept.

“Aunty” Lorraine J. Holtger, 89, Klondike, died peacefully Thursday evening, Aug. 15, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Klondike to Roland and Emily (Burish) Holtger and was a very special “Aunty” to many. Lorraine attended Coleman public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1942. As a young girl, she worked as a clerk at Abby Ste.

Jack J. Marsh, 87, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. He was born on July 18, 1926, son of the late John and Nellie (Johnvin) Marsh. Jack was united in marriage to June Hamlin in Mountain. He was a member of Angelica United Methodist Church, Pulaski. He was a VFW member in Mountain. Jack was in the World War II Army Air Corps, honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1947.
