Schools budget goes to the public Monday

Shawano School District residents will be asked to approve a $26.7 million budget at the district’s annual meeting Monday. The meeting is expected to be less tense than the 2012 annual meeting, when the budget included a sharp increase in the tax rate, from $8.98 to $9.95 per $1,000 of equalized valuation.

Eugene “Gene” Dedolph, 97, of Tigerton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg. Eugene Gordon Dedolph was born on Jan. 18, 1916, in the village of Tigerton to Edward and Ella (Kersten) Dedolph. Were it not for Robert Gabrick, much of the important information about the Four Wheel Drive (FWD) company would have been lost and perhaps gone forever. In 2000 Gabrick came to the FWD museum on 11th Street to do research for two books he wrote about FWD trucks and fire trucks. The following year he began creating an archive for FWD. Dead, abandoned animals found in foreclosed house
A dog heard barking in a foreclosed home led Shawano police to a gruesome find Wednesday when they discovered numerous dead and abandoned animals inside. Authorities required hazardous materials suits and breathing apparatuses to enter and clear out the house at 817 E. Maurer St.
