Two Bonduel School District principals are among the six finalists named Tuesday for the job of district administrator when the post becomes vacant at the end of the school year. Administrator Peter Behnke is retiring in June after 25 years overseeing the district. The school district received 17 applications for the position.

Hawks’ girls fifth at Early Bird Led by Kia Smurawa’s second-place finishes in three events, the Shawano Community High School girls track and field team took fifth place Saturday at the Early Bird Invite in Wausau. Smurawa placed second in the triple jump, long jump and 55-meter dash. Jolene Downs placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and Kathryn Kugel placed fifth in the 1,600 run.

What the Shawano Community High School track and field team lacks in numbers, it will make up for with dedication. At least, that’s what coach Scott Smurawa is hoping. “We’re down a few, both boys and girls are down a little bit,” Smurawa said. “But what we have, the athletes that came out, are dedicated.

Harry J. Rohr, 75, of Shawano, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born Sept. 24, 1938, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Joseph and Doris (Sorenson) Rohr. Harry went to Sturgeon Bay High School. He worked for 43 years at Bay Lake Bank as custodian. Survivors include his sister, Joanne (Gary) DeFere, of Shawano, and brother, Dr.

John C. Rockey, 68, of Tigerton, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at his home. John Charles Rockey was born May 5, 1945, in Manitowoc, to Lester and Gertrude (Kauss) Rockey. He went to college and learned to be a tool and die maker. While in college he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in October 1966. John was employed in the aerospace industry and a variety of other machine shops on the West Coast.

Hildegard M. Uelmen, 98, formerly of Cecil, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Shawano. Hildegard was born on Sept. 3, 1915, to the late William and Wilhelmina (Moesch) Wasmund in the town of Washington. On Sept. 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Leo Uelmen in Pulcifer. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1995. Hildegard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, town of Washington.

Grace Charlotte Rozmiarek, 89, of Shawano, formerly of Rose Lawn, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Maple Lane Health Care Center. Born on July 4, 1924, in the town of Lessor, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Alice (Weisnicht) Boerst. On April 21, 1945, Grace was united in marriage to Raymond Rozmiarek in Hofa Park. Ray preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2004.

Laura A. Dunnam, 52, of the town of Richmond, went home to her God in Heaven on Monday, March 24, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Nov. 25, 1961, in Shawano, she was the daughter of Frederick and Anna May (Case) Opperman. While attending Shawano High School, Laura played volleyball and was the first female from Shawano to receive a sports scholarship.

Doris B. Anderson, 94, of Shawano, left her earthly life with her nephew Donald and niece Michele at her side and entered into life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 23, 2014. Doris was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Manitowoc, a daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Beversdorf) Anderson.
