Wayne E. Wagner, 76, of Suring, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. He was born in Bridgewater, S.D., on Oct. 13, 1937, to the late Claus and Anna Englebrecht Wagner. Wayne married Sandy Schmude on March 11, 1961, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oshkosh. The couple farmed and owned a dry cleaning business near Berlin. He worked as an IBEW industrial electrician and retired in 1999.

Gerald J. Grams Sr., 77, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was born to the late Carl and Louise (Mittag) Grams on April 10, 1937. Gerald married Bernice Droese on June 11, 1960, at St. Paul Evangelical and Reform Church in Menomonee Falls.

Dean “Scooter” Kesler, 51, Gillett, died suddenly Saturday morning, May 24, 2014, at Community Memorial Hospital. He was born May 14, 1963, in Oconto Falls to Willard and Phyllis (Schaal) Kesler. Scooter was a well-known musician in the area.

I woke up one day with the words to an old song running through my sleep-muddled brain. “Mairzy doats and dozy doats/And liddle lamzy divey/A kiddley divey too,/Wooden you?” Boy, they don’t write ‘em like that anymore! If you’re old like me, you might remember that song. I heard it often when I was a little kid in the mid-1940s.

Typically at this time of year, things can get a little hectic in some of the homes bordering the path around the Falls, especially if a member of the household has a graduation coming up. Graduations usually are occasions for family gatherings, and the place has to look just right. There are other factors that can spark those gatherings.

Each year at the annual Home Community Education (HCE) banquet, three $250 scholarships are awarded to members’ dependents. For the first time in Oconto County HCE history, one member had two grandchildren receiving scholarships. Lois Griffin, member of Lakewood HCE Club, is the grandmother of recipients Kelli Griffin and Rachel Tigert. Griffin attends Tremper High School in Kenosha.

Two Oconto Falls High School juniors earned gold medals at the state SkillsUSA competition April 29-30, and Oconto Falls swept the podium in two events. According to John Bursa, OFHS tech ed instructor and SkillsUSA adviser, it was the first time OFHS students swept any event since the school started competing in 2001.
