Author Suzi Parron will speak at the Gillett Library at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 2. Parron’s presentation will feature stories from her first book, “Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement,” which was published in 2011.
A second volume has now been commissioned, so Parron is traveling full time in a converted bus/RV with her husband, Glen, and their dog, Gracie, touring the quilt trails across the country.
Her program will take the audience on a journey along the quilt trail, beginning with the very first barn quilt, which stemmed from Donna Sue Groves’ wish to honor her mother’s quilting art. Parron’s hourlong presentation features more than 100 photographs of barn quilts, some which rival cloth quilts in their intricacy.
She will share humorous anecdotes and tell about individuals who have painted quilt blocks to honor loved ones or their local culture. She will explore the way in which the nation’s quilting heritage takes on new meaning as this movement continues to expand.
Parron is a resident of Stone Mountain, Ga., and has lived in the Atlanta area for 35 years. She is an avid kayaker, a loyal Florida Gator and an occasional quilter.
She will be in the area to view the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project; the local organization will sponsor her visit to Gillett.
