Chickens can roost in Clintonville backyards

Clintonville residents will be able to raise chickens in the city once an ordinance passed this week takes effect. The Common Council voted 6-4 Tuesday to approve the ordinance. Suring man sentenced for abusing girl
A Suring man was recently sentenced in federal court to nearly 22 years in prison for sexually abusing a then 8-year-old girl last summer. Norman W. Corn Jr., 47, was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge William Griesbach to be followed by lifetime supervised release. Corn has been in custody since being indicted late last year.

Society holding Cat Adoption Month

Zoning code rewrite emphasizes landscaping
A rewrite of Shawano’s zoning code would put a premium on landscaping for any new development proposed in the city. “Landscaping requirements are the most different part of the new code,” said consultant Mike Slavney, of Vandewalle and Associates, at a meeting this week of the Zoning Code Rewrite Steering Committee. Hawks building football tradition with youth camp
Shawano Community High School football coach Al Tomow spent this week guiding his second Shawano Hawks Youth Football camp, running 33 fourth- through eighth-graders through drills designed to build their skills. Tomow hopes the work, ultimately, will pay off for the Hawks’ football program. “We put an emphasis on trying to build a strong tradition,” Tomow said.

New acts flood 36th annual Polka Days
From established, Grammy-nominated artists to polka newcomers, the 36th annual Pulaski Polka Days is gearing up to get visitors young and old off their seats and dancing. Helen M. Krause
Helen M. Krause, 86, of the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 10, 2014, at Kindred Hearts in Clintonville. Helen was born in Shawano on Jan. 30, 1928, as the daughter of the late Fred and Elsie (Luecke) Waelchli. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1946 and was united in marriage to Vilas Krause on April 12, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stoney Hill.

Joseph Schwebl III
Joseph “Joe” Schwebl III, 55, of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in Shawano. Born on Feb. 3, 1959, in LaGrange, Illinois, he is the son of Joseph Schwebl Jr. and the late Carol (Marohl) Schwebl. He was employed by the Oneida Casino as a security officer. Joe was known as a “jack of all trades,” which showed in his carpentry skills and his enjoyment of being outside.
