City police want to be team players

Rita Miriam Connahvichnah
Rita Miriam Connahvichnah, 65, of Keshena, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014. Born on Feb. 20, 1949, in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Louise (Mahkimetas) Peterson. On July 3, 1970, Rita was united in marriage to Roderick Connahvichnah in Chicago. The couple started a family and lived in the Chicago area for 16 years before moving to Keshena.

Shawano Legion gets solid win
Taylor Prey pitched a shutout, nine Shawano batters had hits and a shorthanded Shawano American Legion baseball team beat Bay Port 10-0 Monday in Howard. Prey was focused on the mound, scattering three hits in seven innings of work. “We really played well,” Shawano coach Will Gillis said.

School Board considering maximum levy

Barbara A. Talley
Barbara A. Talley, 59, of Pella, passed away on July 2, 2014, in Green Bay due to a late discovery of advanced cancer. Born on Oct. 21, 1954, in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Dell Steffen. Barb married and 17 years later was widowed to the late Jim Talley. She was a surgical nurse for more than 20 years, an accomplished horse enthusiast, water skier, snow skier, Packers fan and local gym frequenter.

Jeremiah “Jerry” Burr
Jeremiah “Jerry” Burr, 84, of Gresham, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in Embarrass. Born on Sept. 26, 1928, in Gresham, he is the son of the late Louis and Mary (Gardner) Burr. Jerry enlisted in the Army on March 5, 1948, and served in both Korea and Japan for which he received three Bronze Stars. He liked cars and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.

New venue for WOW concert series
What’s up for the next Walls of Wittenberg Third Thursday Concert series? A change of location. Thursday’s concert featuring the big band sound of the Northernaires Heritage Orchestra will be held at the newly renovated Wittenberg band shell on Webb Street. The band started as the Northernaires in 1954 and stayed together for about 30 years.

Shawano Woman’s Club gives $1,000 to history group
The Shawano Woman’s Club recently presented a check for $1,000 to the Shawano County Historical Society from sales of plants at the annual Rhubarb Fest last month. Plants for the sale were donated by the members of the community, and master gardeners were on hand during the festival to answer any questions. “I want to thank all the members for all the effort they put into the sale,” said Mary Krietzer, Shawano Woman’s Club president.

Busy times ahead at the Mielke
It can’t be July. It was just June. I had a birthday in June, and already I’m another month older. The Fourth of July weekend began with us taking our two granddaughters to the Clintonville fireworks, which were spectacular. The next day we attended the festive Bonduel parade, along with hundreds of other people. On Sunday, we took part in their car show, with our 1976 Cadillac Deville d’Elegance.
