New venue for WOW concert series

What’s up for the next Walls of Wittenberg Third Thursday Concert series? A change of location. Thursday’s concert featuring the big band sound of the Northernaires Heritage Orchestra will be held at the newly renovated Wittenberg band shell on Webb Street. The band started as the Northernaires in 1954 and stayed together for about 30 years. About five years ago, after Antigo renovated its band stand, Bob Benishek was approached about getting the band together for the dedication of the band stand. Five of the original members were still in the area, so new members were recruited and the Northernaires Heritage Orchestra made its debut. They’ve continued playing at community events and summer concerts. “Most of our musicians are local, from the Antigo area, all of them have an AARP card,” Benishek said. “It’s kind of a joke that to play in the band you have to have an AARP card.” The concert begins at 7 p.m. Free ice cream will be served during the intermission. This concert series is funded by the Lions Club, the town of Wittenberg, Karen Traut, the village of Wittenberg and the Wittenberg Area Chamber of Commerce.
