Our beloved dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, Earl “Mike” Miller, 89, passed away on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, surrounded by his family at a local nursing home. Dad lived a life filled with passion for his work, loyal service to his community and a deep love for his wife and family. Dad was born June 5, 1925, in Chilton to Roland and Elsie Miller.

Donald (Don) A. Seering, 91, of Sheboygan, was called to his eternal home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2014. Donald had been a resident at Morningside Health Care Center the past year. Prior to moving to Sheboygan, he resided at his home on Shawano Lake. He was born on Sept. 18, 1922, in the town of Hartland, the son of William and Anna Seering. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Mueller on March 12, 1950, in Bonduel.

Charles B. “Bony” Bonikowske, 63, Ogdensburg, died on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, in a single-vehicle accident due to a blown tire on a motorcycle trailer, east of Keystone, Iowa. He was born on Sept. 11, 1950, in Iola, son of Kenneth Sr. and Isabella (Heald) Bonikowske. Chuck owned and operated Bonikowske Salvage yard in Helvetia. He enjoyed flying, motorcycling and fishing.

A convicted sex offender who has been kept in forced commitment as a sexually violent person since his prison sentence ended in 1998 was granted supervised release Wednesday after a hearing in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court. Jackson D. Carpenter, 41, was convicted in 1993 of second degree sexual assault of a child and child enticement of a 12-year-old girl.

The Shawano County 4-H program celebrated the centennial of Wisconsin 4-H with a bang — a few hundred actually — as fireworks lit up the Shawano County Fairgrounds. Members of 4-H, past and present, came together Thursday to commemorate the occasion and pay tribute to many longtime leaders and volunteers. They also recalled how 4-H was in years past. For example, to send a child to 4-H camp cost $6 in 1948.
