Oconto Falls High School returns five golfers this season, including four starters from the 2013 campaign. The Panthers ended last year on a high note, shooting a season-best 420 in the regional tournament. “We are looking forward to building on the success,” coach Paul Luebke said. “We have four returning starters to build consistency and improve on their game.” Senior Liz Coopman is one of two returning seniors and serves as the team captain.

Oconto Falls High School is still in search of its first football victory of the season after losing 20-0 Friday at Ashland. The Oredockers scored for the first time 4 minutes into the first quarter when Ben Cashman scored on a 2-yard run. Cashman had 15 carries for 55 yards. Ashland jumped ahead 14-0 in the third quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run by Brendan Carter.

Gillett Secondary School senior Monte Noffke continued his scorching scoring run in the Tigers’ 49-7 victory against visiting Tigerton/Marion on Thursday. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound halfback scored two rushing touchdowns to give him seven TDs in the first two games. Rain doesn’t deter attendance Attendance at the 133rd Shawano County Fair stayed brisk, despite rain hitting the area over the last few days. Brad Luepke, fair marketing and promotions director, said the rain only impacted some scheduled events, such as the Enduro races Friday night and the last night of the 2014 Shawano Speedway season on Saturday.

Lots of crowing could be heard from the Shawano County Fair Coliseum on Monday as humans and chickens showcased their best crowing abilities. The annual fair event gave the opportunity for county residents to show how well their roosters can crow and fly, and once the birds were returned to their cages, the owners showed off their best imitations of their birds’ cry.
