I’m a big fan of Garrison Keillor’s “Writers Almanac” on WPR. A few weeks ago, he included an item about Rin Tin Tin’s birthday, and it set me thinking about dogs, the famous and not-so-famous, from my own life, from literature, from the movies. Oconto County Public Health will offer free HPV, meningitis and Tdap vaccines to all sixth- to 12th-graders as well. A completed, signed consent form is required for each student receiving any vaccine.

The Gillett Secondary School lost to Bonduel in three straight games, and the Bonduel crowd helped the home team win the dash for cash, but more than $1,000 was raised at the “Dig for a Cure” match Thursday at Bonduel High School. The annual match, which alternates between the two schools, raises funds for local families fighting cancer. “This is the first time I’ve been this far involved,” Gillett coach Keri Hicks said.

Lon Ludemann did something he doesn’t often do. The Oconto Falls High School girls cross-country coach wrote a goal time on each athlete’s hand prior to Thursday’s Bremser Invitational in Mishicot. “I usually only do that here, but I think I’m going to do it every week because it works,” Ludemann said.
