Cheryl Lynn Jacobs

Cheryl Lynn Jacobs, 62, of Keshena, passed away on Sept. 30, 2014, in Appleton. Born on Sept. 20, 1952, in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Reva (Dowdy) Jacobs. Cheryl loved watching NASCAR and enjoyed cheering for her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Cheryl enjoyed to cook, especially for her family. She was a loyal, generous, caring person who loved to spend time with her friends and family.

George F. Wilber
George F. Wilber, 89, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2014. He was born on Aug. 19, 1925, in Oshkosh, a son of the late Franklin and Alta (Sturm) Wilber. George served his country in the U.S. Army soon after World War II. He married the former Marcella Rose Otradovec on May 26, 1951. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1997.

James Dale Saffran, 78, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, in Nashville, Indiana. He was a resident of Trafalgar, Indiana. Beck shoots 97, makes sectional
The young Shawano Community High School girls golf team regressed, but junior Julia Beck earned a trip to sectionals at Wednesday’s WIAA Division 1 regional tournament at Thornberry Creek at Oneida. Beck shot a 97, finishing tied with Green Bay Preble’s Sydney Onesti for ninth.

BHS golfer advances to sectional
Taylor Diemel was determined to pick up her game after a slump this season. A lot of hard work later, and a few extra trips to Irish Waters Golf Course in Freedom, and the senior is bound for sectionals. Diemel shot a 97, one of her best rounds of the season, at Irish Waters at the WIAA Division 2 regional Wednesday.

Panel supports assisted living facility proposal
The Shawano Plan Commission on Wednesday recommended approval of a special zoning exception to allow for a new assisted living facility catering to frail elderly residents. The 24-unit facility proposed for 820 Olson St.

Play will have laughs, rest assured
The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild will present a gentle ghost story for its fall production as “Rest Assured” hits the stage Friday and continues through Oct. 12. Mary Madsen, president of the Shawano County Arts Council, which manages the Box in the Wood Theatre Guild, is making her debut as a solo director. She previously was a co-director for “Characters,” which was performed in 2011. “It’s been an experience,” Madsen said.

Clintonville mayor takes leave of absence
Clintonville Mayor Judith Magee announced Thursday that she is taking a medical leave of absence. Magee said she will return to her position when her health is better but no later than Nov. 26. Jeannie Schley, Common Council president, will assume the mayor duties in Magee’s absence. Schley said her most important concern would be getting an interim city administrator as soon as possible.
