Burt A. Whitlow

Burt A. Whitlow, 84, Lena, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2014, at the Woodlands of Oconto, following complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Wilfred and Elizabeth (Davis) Whitlow. When he was 18 years old, Burt moved to West Allis to live with family and moved to Oconto County in 1970. On Nov. 17, 1970, he married Lorna Zimmerman in Alabama. Burt lived in Oconto County for most of his life.

Kenneth Kozak
Kenneth Jacob Kozak, Oconto Falls, died Friday evening, Oct. 31, 2014, at the age of 74 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Kewaunee to Jacob and Ruth (LeCloux) Kozak Jr. Ken graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1958 and then enlisted in the Navy. Mary Jane Gruentzel
Mary Jane Gruentzel, 84, of 5601 Downtown Lane, Gillett, loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt, earned her angel wings on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. The former Mary Jane Borchardt was born Feb. 12, 1930, in Appleton. She met the love of her life, Chuck Gruentzel, and they were united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1948, in Little Chute. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2006.

Tug Flynn
Tug Flynn, 86, of Lakewood, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, surrounded by family at his home. He was born on Oct. 4, 1928, to Clyde and Ruby Flynn in Wabeno. Tug spent his childhood in Mountain and joked he was the “smartest boy in his class” (note: he was the only boy) before joining the U.S. Air Force at 17.

Donald David Anderson
Donald David Anderson, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 4, 2014, surrounded by family. Dad was born June 23, 1928, in Marinette to Oscar Anderson and Beatrice (Cox) Anderson and was the grandson of Swedish immigrants. At an early age, he moved with his family to Livermore Falls, Maine, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1946. He received a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maine.

Oct. 30 Deputies logged 29 incidents, including the following: Suspicious - A vehicle was parked on County Road N at City Park in Oconto playing loud music at 2:14 a.m. Disturbance - Trucks were driving in a field on Morgan River Road in Oconto Falls. Accident- A vehicle was in the ditch on County Road A, 1 mile east of County K in Lena. Suspicious - A vehicle with its lights off came into a driveway on County Road E in Abrams about 8:30 p.m.

Shooting range reopens for limited time
Approximately 34 people used the Machickanee Forest Shooting Range over the weekend to to sight in their weapons for the gun deer season. The range on Garrity Road in Morgan had been closed since May 2 because of ongoing safety concerns and noise complaints from neighbors. The Oconto County Forest, Parks and Recreation Committee, however, in August decided to reopen the range on a limited basis prior to the gun deer season.

Proceedings from Oct. 31 Marsha L. Redmon, 39, Oconto, was sentenced to two years incarceration at Taycheedah and three years extended supervision for possessing drug paraphernalia to manufacture, compound, convert, produce or store methamphetamine from July 7 in Little River. On charges of manufacture and deliver methamphetamine, sentencing was withheld for three years consecutive to the first charge.

A 42-year-old woman walking on Green Bay Avenue in Oconto Falls reported a woman pulled her car to the side of the road and shouted obscenities at the walker Oct. 14. Police responded to a disturbance Oct. 15 on North Franklin Street caused by a fight between a man and woman, both 28 years old from Oconto Falls. A 51-year-old man reported being harassed by another man Oct. 20 at Gilligan’s North, 157 N.
