Thomas W. DeRoo Sr., 53, of Shawano, died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at his home. Tom was born in Superior on July 4, 1961, to Dolores (Burnett) DeRoo-Kelley and the late Archie DeRoo.

Tina Marie Rusch, 52, of Shawano, passed away on Jan. 6, 2015, in Shawano. Tina was born on Jan. 27, 1962, in Shawano to the late Sheldon and Marlene (Retzlaf) Rusch.

Parents of elementary-grade students will see a new grading system when the Shawano School District sends home report cards later this month. Officials announced this week that report cards for grades K-5 will be moving away from a plus/minus grading system in favor of a numerical system from 1 to 4.

The first Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was celebrated nationwide Friday, and officials here say the level of support and appreciation shown by the Shawano community would be hard to match anywhere else. “I will challenge anyone to find another community that has shown their support as Shawano has,” Police Chief Mark Kohl said.
