OFHS teacher named outstanding adviser

The Oconto Falls High School FBLA adviser earned state recognition and an OFHS junior was elected to state office at the Wisconsin State FBLA Leadership Conference held April 13 and 14. Adviser Tracy Tate received the Outstanding Local Chapter Adviser Award, also known as the Les and Rosemary Korbel Award, in honor of the husband and wife team of business education teachers who established FBLA at OFHS. New Beginnings gets grant for at-risk youth program
The New Beginnings Store and Employment and Training Center’s youth employment program recently received a grant from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation to create and administer an at-risk youth employment program. The grant was awarded to help serve youth in foster care or the juvenile justice system or those struggling at school or experiencing family problems. BASEBALL Denmark 2 Oconto Falls 0 Connor Sefcik pitched four scoreless innings in relief, but the Panthers’ offense was shut out April 14 against undefeated Denmark. Sefcik allowed four hits, one walk and struck out four following an early departure by Riley Gruetzmacher. Falls finishes second in Bay triangular
The Oconto Falls High School girls and boys track teams finished second at a Bay Conference triangular April 14 with Shawano Community High School and Luxemburg-Casco. L-C won the boys meet with 92 points. OFHS (52) was second and Shawano (42) third. L-C also won the girls meet. with 82 points.

Panthers relying on four returners on the links
Coming off a team trip to sectionals last season, the Oconto Falls High School golf team has high expectations for 2015. The Panthers return four of their top six golfers. “I know I’m excited and I hope the kids are as excited as I am, because it looks on paper that we should be competitive,” second-year coach Scott Schroeder said.

DNR handles 700 sturgeon on peak day
The shores of Sturgeon Park were burgeoning Saturday with the crowds that turned out to see the annual ritual of the spawning run of the star attraction for which the park was named, but it would be hard to tell whether the crowds or the sturgeon came in greater numbers. 2 '14 track champions open speedway season with wins
Defending track champions Ron Berna and Travis VanStraten raced to wins Saturday on the opening night of the 53rd year of racing at the Shawano Speedway. Matt Oreskovich, Brock Saunders and Grant Kastning also made their way to victory lane as the 2015 racing season started under clear skies. It only hurts when I sit, stand or sleep
There is something about the month of April that seems to cause it to fly past without noticing. Of course, last year, spring didn’t come quite as early, but this year, with mainly warm weather, it is astounding how quickly the days go by. My time seems to be partly taken up with going to Tigerton High School softball games.
