A construction site on the west side of Oconto Falls served as a classroom for a dozen Oconto Falls High School students who spent part of their school days building a duplex for low-income tenants. For a second year in a row, students in the construction class helped build a duplex on King Street for NEWCAP, a private, nonprofit agency that assists low-income residents. A town of Underhill couple lost their house and garage to a fire on June 2. The town of Underhill Fire Department responded to the home of Michael and Aleta Elko, 5726 Berry Lake Road, about 7 p.m. Firefighters, who found the garage fully engulfed in flames, started an interior attack inside the house to stop the spread of the fire. “The roof gave way and that stopped us from getting at the fire from the top,” Fire Chief Chris Milhans said.

A 17-year-old from Gillett was killed and two other teens seriously injured in a Marinette County accident Saturday night. According to Marinette County authorities, the three were northbound in a vehicle on 41st Road near West Fourth Road in the town of Beaver about 11 p.m. Their vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, entered a ditch and rolled over. A pickup truck crashed into the side of a dump truck Friday afternoon, killing the pickup’s driver and injuring his wife. According to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, a dump truck driven by a 55-year-old man from Marinette pulled out from the stop sign to cross state Highway 32 and travel east on County Road S in Chase. The dump truck pulled in front of a northbound pickup truck driven by Michael R.

Laptops will be issued to seventh- and 10th-grade students for the 2015-16 school year, as the Oconto Falls School Board on Monday unanimously recommitted to its 1-to-1 technology initiative. The School Board will invest $205,500 to continue its multi-year effort to phase-in laptops for seventh- and 10th-grade students.
