Thunder strike Oconto Falls for 3rd time

One day after hitting the lights out, the Oconto Falls High School baseball team couldn’t come through in the clutch in its next game. It ultimately cost the Panthers their season. Oconto Falls stranded 10 runners – six in scoring position — and had one player cut down at the plate in a 4-0 loss to Seymour in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game June 3. Hornets land 2 on all-conference team
The new Gillett/Suring high school softball co-op team placed two members on the All-Marinette & Oconto Conference team announced last week. Earning second-team honors for the Hornets were junior infielder Mackenzie Simpson and freshman utility player Willow Pecha. The Hornets finished the season with an 8-8 record, 4-7 in the M&O. Hornets coach Joe Lojsperberger cited injuries as the team’s downfall.

Several people hurt in crash Saturday
A rollover crash in Shawano County involving six people in a pickup truck, including three riding in the back, has sent several people to hospitals. The truck was driving east on state Highway 156, west of Highway 47 in the town of Lessor, about 9:20 a.m.

Many residents have lived at Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg for several years because they can go from independent living to 24-hour care. The nondenominational, nonprofit facility, which has 81 licensed beds and 52 assisted living apartments, is managed by 46 Lutheran churches. “Everything they need is right here,” said Arlene Hanus, community-based residential facilities administrator.

Long-awaited arrivals appearing at Shawano Speedway
Well here it is, the first weekend of June. In terms of racing, it means the action on the track is beginning to heat up. Enough weeks have passed to allow serious point contenders to establish themselves. This weekend should also bring about the much-anticipated season debuts of a handful of drivers. Jared Siefert, Dan Michonski and Scott Stewart are each slated to make their 2015 season debuts. Siefert has been a much-anticipated arrival.

7 compete for Ms. Senior Homemaker title
A Ms. Senior Homemaker Pageant will be held from 1-4 p.m. Thursday at the Shawano Lake County Park indoor pavilion, W5785 Lake Drive, Shawano. The event is free and open to the public.
