Alvin Carl Krueger

Alvin Carl Krueger, 94, of Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in Oconto Falls to the late Julius and Amalia (Reinert) Krueger. Al graduated from Oconto Falls High School with the Class of 1939. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the 431st Bomb Squad at Pearl Harbor and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on Dec. 1, 1941.
National Night Out has community safety theme
The Lena Police Department will hold National Night Out from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the St. Anne Parish grounds.
Holt descendant speaks at logging museum
Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum in Lakewood attracted a standing room-only crowd at its special event on Saturday, June 27. Don DeWitt, great-grandson of W.A. and Lucy Holt, was the guest speaker. Using carefully researched historical information he supplemented with photos and maps, DeWitt detailed his family’s role in the lumbering history of northern Oconto County.
Machickanee troupe announces tryouts
The Machickanee Players will hold tryouts at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 4 for their fall production of “Dearly Beloved.” The play requires an assorted cast.
Plenty to do in the northwoods
Several events will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, in northern Oconto County, and “Discover Wisconsin” TV crews will be in the area filming segments. Oconto County will be featured on an upcoming “Discover Wisconsin” episode. The Aug. 1 events include the Townsend Flowage Association Corn Roast and Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Townsend Town Hall; the Legion Auxiliary brat fry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
One room, many memories
One-room schools are a thing of the past, but the memories are still vivid for a group of Claywood School alumni who met last week for a reunion. The graduates met on Wednesday at the Farm Inn in Shawano.

Relationship building is topic of farm meeting
Bridging Dairies Together is the topic of this summer’s farm social gathering. The Marinette County Holstein Association and Oconto County Dairy Promotions will merge their annual Twilight Meeting and Dairy at Dusk events for a single event. Bridging Dairies Together will be hosted on Friday, July 31, by the Dean and Wanda Good family and Dewgood Holsteins, located at 7937 Elm Lane Road, just north of Oconto.
