Heritage or hate?

City panels to vote on medical training center
The developer of a proposed medical residency training program at the former Shawano Medical Center would have two years to get the program up and running, come up with an alternative development project, or let the property revert back to the city, under an agreement that will go before city officials next week. Henning’s blast helps Shawano Legion to 10-9 victory
An early rally and a wild pitch keyed Shawano American Legion’s 10-9 win Thursday over visiting Waupaca. With Shawano behind 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, Zack Sousek hit a leadoff single and scored on a Ky Schmidt single. Outfielder Chase Henning then delivered a two-run blast to pull the Patriots ahead 3-1. “They didn’t pitch to him after that, which is a smart move,” Shawano coach Will Gillis said.

Golf outing supports SCAF
The Shawano Area Community Foundation will host its 24th annual charitable golf outing Aug. 4 at Golden Sands Golf Course, 300 Nabor Road, Cecil. Proceeds are directed to the SACF’s Shawano Area Fund, which benefits local area nonprofit organizations working to preserve and improve the quality of life in Shawano County. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and golfing (scramble format) at noon with a shotgun start.

Teens lead authorities on high-speed chase
A juvenile from Milwaukee led authorities on a high-speed chase on state Highway 29 early Thursday, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department. A sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle driving recklessly and at high speeds near the County Road K exit about 2 a.m. The driver ignored the deputy’s attempt to pull over the vehicle, and a chase reaching speeds of 120 mph ensued as the vehicle headed east toward Bonduel. SIST subsidiary, AmericInn dissolve franchise agreement
The AmericInn in Shawano will soon be going by some other name. The motel owned and operated by Midwest Hotels and Motels of Shawano, a subsidiary of the Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology, ended its franchise agreement with Minnesota-based AmericInn Hotels and Suites earlier this month. Former detective files notice of claim against the county
A former Shawano County sheriff’s detective has filed a notice of claim against the county alleging he was driven from his job because of harassment by members of the County Board and Sheriff Adam Bieber. Wade Wudtke resigned on March 19 and took a job with the Clintonville Police Department.
