Frank Daniel LaRose, 63, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015. Frank was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 3, 1951, to the late Frank W. and Delores E. (Zunker) LaRose. He graduated from Brown Deer High School in 1970 and enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1985, Frank moved to the Shawano area from Milwaukee. He was involved in the Shawano County Literacy Program and as a volunteer at the Shawano County Bread Basket.

Injured Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari has missed the last two weeks of practice, but he plans to take his usual spot up front once the regular season begins. That’s about as specific as Bakhtiari got on Wednesday about why he has been sidelined in training camp. “Um, progress. It’s doing all right,” the third-year veteran said. Clintonville taxpayers will see a small decrease in their school district taxes this year. Voters approved a tax levy of $6,283,147 at the district’s annual meeting Monday. Last year’s levy was $6,283,431. The proposed levy assumes no increase in equalized valuation, which which won’t be known until October. The estimated tax rate will be $11.41 per $1,000 per assessed valuation, the same as last year.

The death of highway worker Derek Stempa, who was struck by a vehicle at a road construction site in May, as well as other accidents caused by inattentive driving, has prompted Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber to lobby for changes in state law that give law enforcement more leeway for prosecution. Shawano Community High School head tennis coach Brian Beyer knew Xavier could pose a problem to his team in its Bay Conference opener because of its consistently strong tennis program. Despite a 7-0 loss, Beyer was happy with the performance of his team, which produced tight matches throughout the day.
