County OKs LEC construction bids

The Oconto County Board on Thursday approved a bulk of the bids for a new law enforcement center and agreed to take $1.75 million from sales tax to pay for the facility. The center, to be built north of the courthouse, will include jail housing for up to 175 inmates, a sheriff’s administration area and a 911 center. Souped up safety
Safety upgrades at Gillett Elementary School will change things up for parents and visitors seeking entrance to the building starting this week. People entering the building during school hours will be required to press a button on an intercom box outside the doors that will ring a buzzer inside the office.

GIRLS GOLF Panthers place 4th at Marinette meet Oconto Falls tallied a team score of 214, good for fourth place out of 12 teams, at a Bay/NEW North Divisional Meet on Aug. 24. Brittany Russell led the scoring for the Panthers with a 44. Rebecca Berkovitz was second for Oconto Falls, and Brianna LeFebre followed in third with a 55.

Wolf earns 2nd, ready for senior season
Bailey Wolf wanted a good start to her senior season. A second-place finish is just what she had her sights set on. Springborn breaks through for 1st win of the year
Jerry Wilinski took his fifth feature win in a row and seventh overall in a battle for the ages in the IMCA Modified feature Saturday night. Troy Springborn raced to his first Late Model feature win of the year. Travis VanStraten scored win No. 14 in the IMCA Stock Car class at Shawano Speedway.

FOOTBALL Bonduel runs to 2nd victory of season Blake Stoss racked up 163 yards rushing and three touchdowns as Bonduel (2-0) defeated host Peshtigo 33-22 Friday night. Preston Robaidek added two touchdowns, one rushing and one 69-yard touchdown reception. With the Bears leading 27-0, Peshtigo returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown, swinging the momentum in its favor, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. GIRLS VO

SCHS falls to Menasha, 57-0
It wasn’t the ideal start for the Shawano Community High School football team. The Hawks gave up a defensive touchdown to Menasha in the first two minutes, and then the Bluejays’ offense went to work.
