Officials of Marion Body Works Inc. recently announced that they had signed an agreement with Consolidated Construction Co. to build a new headquarters and expand an existing manufacturing facility in Marion. Although some work has already begun, the official groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday. “This large expansion has a 110-year history,” said Curt Ignacio, president and CEO of Marion Body Works.

The owners of the vacant Kmart property in Shawano are proposing to split the space into three sections to accommodate three retail businesses, but their plan could require some assistance from the city. The proposal was shared at a recent meeting of the Shawano Industrial and Commercial Development Committee. The Shawano Kmart at 1211 E. Green Bay St. closed in July 2014, laying off 55 employees.

Roger Louis Bogda, 71, of L’Anse, Michigan, entered into his eternal rest on Aug. 22, 2015. He was born in Shawano on May 21, 1944, the son of the late Jenny Pamonicutt and Louis Salzman. He was a member of the Menominee Nation of Keshena and the Wolf Clan. Roger served in the Army in Korea. He married the former Lois Crebessa in Milwaukee on Oct. 18, 1969. She preceded him in death on June 3, 2014.

Helen Nastran Miller, 91, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 29, while residing at the Eagan, Minnesota, home of her daughter, Ginger Kendrick. Her life’s purpose was to glorify God through her unwavering faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be remembered for her constant love and prayers for family and friends. Helen was born on April 29, 1924, in Waukegan, Illinois, to John and Mabel Nastran.

One month after David Hawpetoss was found dead along a road on the Menominee reservation, his family is questioning how police have handled the investigation and why no arrest has been made. “We are very disappointed,” said Paul Marroquin, father of the 48-year-old victim, who police believe was a pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver. Hawpetoss, a Menominee tribal member who lived in Gresham, was pronounced dead around 4 a.m.
