Christine Marie Loberger, 56, of Oconto Falls, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at home with her family by her side. Christine was born Nov. 1, 1959, in Green Bay to Elmer and Patricia (Thyrion) Dury. She married Raymond Loberger on Sept. 6, 2002. Muriel Katherine Isabelle Stein, 103, of Oconto Falls, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at her home. Muriel was born Dec. 29, 1911, to the late Frank and Grace (Lusk) MacDonald. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1929.

Players to hold annual meeting
The Machickanee Players will hold their annual general meeting for all members at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Park Avenue Playhouse, 408 Park Ave., Oconto. Everyone who has helped with a Machickanee Players production, either on stage or behind stage, is considered a voting member of the group and can help decide the direction of the group for the next year. The gathering will begin with the general meeting at 3 p.m.

Chamber gets OK for summer concerts
The East Side Beach in Oconto Falls will be the venue for three summer concerts sponsored by the Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Gail Yatso drew an enthusiastic response from the City Council on Nov. 10 for Music by the River-2016 Sunset Concert Series. Rock ‘n’ roll bands are scheduled to perform from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 24, July 22 and Aug.

Falls Fire Dept. purchases safety equipment
The Oconto Falls Fire Department has used a $15,000 donation from ST Paper to purchase equipment to stabilize vehicles at emergency scenes. The new air bags, struts and related equipment will be used to lift and steady vehicles involved in accidents. Fire Chief Tim Magnin on Nov. 10 pulled the equipment from the storage areas on a fire truck to show Steve Lea, of ST Paper, Mayor Brad Rice and City Administrator Vicki Roberts.

Gillett fills gaps in Public Works Dept.
The city of Gillett has hired a consultant, promoted an employee and hired a private contractor for leaf pick-up, as it deals with a vacancy in the Public Works and Utility departments. Ron Anderson, who resigned as director of the two departments on Oct. 30, joined the staff of Oconto Falls Municipal Utilities as water operator on Nov. 2.

City reviews 5-stage redo of Memorial Field
A baseball field will replace the football field and track at Memorial Field, in the first of a multi-stage plan to repurpose the city’s park. The City Council on Nov. 10 agreed to the first stage of a five-stage proposal, to build a hardball field where the track and football field are located, presented by Oconto Falls Parks and Recreation Director Sheila Manns.

Hwy. 22 work continues east in 2017
State Highway 22 will be closed to through traffic between Oconto Falls and Stiles in 2017 to accommodate a four-month, $3.5 million highway improvement project. About 30 residents from the towns of Stiles and Oconto Falls met with Department of Transportation representatives Nov.
