Muriel Stein

Muriel Katherine Isabelle Stein, 103, of Oconto Falls, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at her home. Muriel was born Dec. 29, 1911, to the late Frank and Grace (Lusk) MacDonald. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1929. After graduation, she went to Waukesha and worked in the office of the Motor Works, taking shorthand (which she still knew) and typing. When she returned to Oconto she worked at the knitting mills, cutting knit wear. In June of 1935, Muriel and her friend, Elizabeth, hitchhiked to Montana to see her sister. On Nov. 15, 1940, she married Alfred Stein. They farmed in Lena until moving to Oconto Falls in 1950. He preceded her in death in January 1974. Muriel got her driver’s license at the age of 62. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Oconto Falls. Muriel is survived by three children, Donald (Janice) Stein; Richard (Kathy) Stein; Marcy (Ted) Thronson; six granddaughters, Wendy (Michael Smith) Stein; Jodi Stein; Sara (Jerry) Arndt; DeAnne (Brennan) Wyatt; Leah Thronson; and Erika (Mark) Sisel, nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Gracie, Kyla, Jayden, Jacob, Max, Zoe, Colton, Melina and one nephew, Allan (Sue) Ansorge. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Graveside services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto, by the Rev. Frederik Schultz.
