Wittenberg-Birnamwood athletes sign letters of intent

Four Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School athletes signed college letters of intent Nov. 17, as friends, family and school officials looked on with pride.

Rory Salvesen will play softball at the University of Minnesota. Melaina Granquist will play basketball at Western Illinois University. Bryson Schmid agreed to play football at University of Minnesota-Duluth. Finally, Reese Dickman will swim at Oklahoma Christian University.

Brian Pagel

Brian James “Turk” Pagel, 60, passed away Nov. 2, 2025, in Fairland, Oklahoma.

Born on Dec. 4, 1964, in Lena, Brian lived a life marked by quiet strength, generosity and a deep love for both people and animals.

David L. Gerndt

David L. Gerndt, 81, of Suring, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, with his wife by his side.

Dave was born Feb. 3, 1944, to the late Leslie Gerndt and Helen (Lemke Gerndt) Trever. Dave married Mary Williamsen on Aug. 26, 1978, in Kaukauna, after meeting at Nu-Line Industries.

The couple farmed together with family until the early 2000s. Dave then worked at KI Manufacturing in Bonduel as a foreman until retirement.
