UW-Whitewater Bennett Frazer, of Lena and a management major and member of the UW-Whitewater baseball team, was among 47 Warhawks recognized as a 2023-24 Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete. To be recognized as scholar-athletes, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.25 cumulative GPA or above through the end of the 2023 fall semester.

Marion Doris (Erickson) Murphy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024, in Winter Haven, Florida, at the age of 94. She was born on May 3, 1929, to Peter and Alice (Eggleston) Erickson. Marion grew up in the Town of Morris. She graduated from Bowler High School in 1947 and then earned her teaching certificate. Marion married the love of her life, Francis (Frank) Murphy, in 1950.

George L. Krupka, 77, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, at Country Villa Assisted Living in Pulaski. The son of Thomas and Alice (Hoppa) Krupka, he was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Stevens Point. George grew up in Stevens Point and moved to the Angelica area with his former wife, Kay, to raise their family. He worked as a machinist for Paper Converting for over 40 years.

Kenneth R. Kegel, 77, of Suring, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, with family by his side. Ken was born on Nov. 26, 1946, to the late Albert and Fay (Kray) Kegel on the family farm, where he would go on to live the rest of his life. He purchased the farm from his parents in 1976. On Oct. 4, 1969, Ken married Toni Jagodzinski at St. Michael Catholic Church. Ken enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking.

Joyce Audrey Kielman, 95, formerly of Bowler, died on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Wisconsin Veteran Home at King. Joyce was born on July 22, 1928, in the Town of Hutchins, the daughter of Wilbert and Gena (Pollock) Clauss. On Nov. 10, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to Royal Kielman in Waukesha. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2012. Royal and Joyce owned and operated Kielman’s Service Station in Bowler for over 30 years.

Marlene Mae “Cookie” Delabrue, 81, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Cookie was born in Keshena on June 28, 1942, daughter of the late Marion and Crystal (Miller) Dickie. Cookie is a graduate of Shawano High School. On Oct. 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to Milton “Jigger” Delabrue at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. They moved to Chicago and there they lived, worked and raised their family.

Shawano School District had a nearly 2-1 ratio more than a decade ago on students coming into the district through Wisconsin’s open enrollment program versus local children attending school in other districts.
