Tigerton beats Bowler/Gresham in DH

May 9 Shiocton 10, Bonduel 9 Shiocton jumped out to an 8-2 lead after the first inning and held on from there to beat Bonduel 10-9. Shiocton scored another two runs in the second inning to take a 10-2 lead. Five runs by the Bears in the third inning and another two in the fourth made it 10-9. Manawa 8, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 5 Manawa used a big seven-run third inning to defeat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 8-5. The Chargers scored three runs in the fourth

Nancy E. Jaeger
Nancy Ellen Jaeger, 83, passed away at her home in Gillett on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Nancy was born on Sept. 27, 1940, in Oconto Falls, daughter of the late Ray and Ruth (Nass) Temple. On April 12, 1958, she was united in marriage to Wilmer Jaeger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pulcifer. They had a wonderful 42 years together before Wilmer’s passing in 2000. Nancy loved hosting family gatherings, especially the annual 4th of July party.

Dorothy ‘Dottie’ F. Trudell
Dorothy “Dottie” F. Trudell, 93, of Oconto Falls, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024. Dottie was born on Aug. 11, 1930, to Edward and Evelyn (Howard) Bourdlais. As a young girl, she grew up in Marinette. At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Rodney Trudell. Together they had six children. Dottie loved baking fresh bread by hand for family and friends, and she also made peanut blossoms that were her grandkids’ favorite.

Jeannine “Jen” R. Boehm
Jeannine “Jen” R. Boehm, 93, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Survivors include her six children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Boehm; and a granddaughter. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 302 S. Main St., Shawano. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Desiree’ L. Reeder-Pampuch
Desiree’ Lynne Reeder-Pampuch, affectionately known as Desi, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 59. Born on Jan. 15, 1965, to Ann and Victor Reeder, Desi was the youngest among her six siblings. She married Timothy James Pampuch on Oct. 22, 1994. Desi dedicated 35 years of her life to education, earning recognition as the district teacher of the year twice.

FARM LIFE FROM A FARM WIFE: Staying active is the key to aging well
I had been working in my raspberry patch, getting rid of dead stalks and weeding before the warmth sprung up too many nasties. Finding that I actually had to turn a pail upside-down to sit halfway through the project left me baffled. Later that day, I grumbled to my husband, “My old self would have run circles around this self.” Clinks, squeaks, pops and snaps greet me as I stretch awake in the morning. Youth is wasted on the young.

City taxi fares could increase next year
Taxi fares in Shawano could be increasing in 2025, but the city-owned company is still being examined to see if it is necessary. City Finance Director Greg Smith told the Shawano Common Council on May 8 that there is a possibility the fares could increase 50 cents next year, although a $1 increase in the fares could not be ruled out.

Council approves beer license only for theater
The Shawano Common Council approved new liquor licenses and renewed existing licenses, with one exception, on May 8. The request for Shawano Cinema to have a class B beer and liquor license was reduced to a class B beer license before approval.
