Work on approximately .75 miles of state Highway 156 between Robley Road and Lessor Navarino Road in Shawano County is scheduled to begin on April 21. RC Excavating Inc., of Suamico, is the prime contractor for the $897,000 project. A proposal to create a new tax increment finance (TIF) district aimed at spurring development along East Green Bay Street went before the Shawano Plan Commission on Tuesday. The plan will next go to a public hearing before the commission, tentatively scheduled for June 4. The map of the proposed district is still being finalized.

Detectives and support staff with the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department are eager to move into their new facilities in the basement of the county courthouse. They were not told, however, that the offices would come unfurnished. As a result, the Public Safety Committee on Wednesday had to approve spending $7,500 from the department’s carryover fund — unspent money from the previous year’s budget — to pay for the furniture.

The Bonduel High School boys track and field team won a six-team meet Tuesday at Iola-Scandinavia. The Bears scored 153 points to take first. Tigerton was sixth with 32 points. The Bonduel boys won two relay events. Caleb Dowling, Ryan Mathew, Zach Zernicke and Allen Mays took first in the 4x400-meter relay.

After her 10th strike March 18 at Lakeshore Lanes, Jessica Huff had everyone’s attention.
