A taxi service that provides low-cost rides has been proposed for two Oconto County communities. The Oconto NEWCAP office contacted city leaders in Oconto and Oconto Falls to determine if they would support a shared-ride taxi service. “We are in the very beginning stages of determining if something like this can be done,” said Peggy Zielinski, NEWCAP mobility manager.

Four juveniles outside a residence on South Oakland Avenue were cited for consuming alcohol on Aug. 2. A 13-year-old Oconto Falls boy suffered a broken collarbone Aug. 2 after the bicycle he was riding hit the side of a vehicle leaving the parking lot of the East Side Beach. The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old male, said he did not see the bicyclist approaching on the sidewalk on Main Street.

Suring Elementary School will provide after-school enrichment activities for youth, thanks to a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant of $80,000. The Oconto Falls School District will act as its own construction manager for $2.2 million in outdoor projects, including a football stadium and track at Oconto Falls High School and renovations at the entrance to Abrams Elementary School.
