Almost 200 bicyclists hit the streets of Shawano and surrounding communities Saturday for the second annual Bike the Barn Quilts event. Started by Shawano Pathways, the event promotes healthy outdoor activity while showcasing Shawano County’s barn quilts.

My computer monitor has been kind of sleepy lately. It doesn’t want to wake up when I come back to check something on the computer. Is it the monitor? Is it the computer? I was told it was likely the computer. I took it in a while back, and it was better for a while, but now it is sleepy once again. It isn’t so bad when I only have to switch it on and off two or three times, but sometimes, 10 minutes later, it still won’t wake up.

We went from completing our hay harvest to chopping corn immediately. On the day we finished third crop, my husband announced we’d change the hay head to the corn head on the chopper and continue filling the silage bag with corn. Rolling my eyes heavenward (behind his back), I thought, there go my plans. Farming takes precedence over anything I might be dreaming up when it comes to personal lists of things-to-do.

A new monthly workshop offered by the University of Wisconsin-Extension in Shawano County will answer questions about how local government operates. Jay Moynihan, UW-Extension community resource development educator, will facilitate the workshops that will examine town, village, county, city and school district governing bodies — what they are and what they can do. “It’s open and free to everybody,” Moynihan said. Shawano Police Department Sept. 25 Police logged 22 incidents, including the following: OAR — A 50-year-old woman was cited for operating after revocation at Main and Division streets. Disturbance — Police responded to a verbal dispute in the 1200 block of South Bartlett Street. Disorderly — Police responded to a disorderly conduct complaint at Peace United Church, 208 E. Maurer St. Theft — A bike was reported stolen at Walmart, 1244 E.

The Caroline Lions Colorama celebration, featuring the 26th annual fall trail ride, will be held Thursday through Sunday in Caroline. The trail ride, with more than 1,300 horses, is the largest in Wisconsin, according to Colorama organizers. The fun begins at 6 p.m. Thursday with polka music by Chad Przybylski and the Polka Rhythms. Country music replaces polka when Raised Reckless takes the stage from 9 p.m.

Marilyn “Mary” Boivin (nee Davids), 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept.

Earl G. Lundmark, 86, of Shawano, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, in Shawano. Earl was born on Nov. 19, 1927, in Amery to the late Lenus and Marie (Hanson) Lundmark. On Feb. 17, 1951, Earl was united in marriage to Patricia H. Elliott in Minneapolis. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 1998. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Earl enlisted in the U.S.
