School district unveils ALICE emergency plan

The Shawano School District on Tuesday unveiled its new options-based plan for responding to emergency situations in the schools at a sparsely attended community informational meeting. Dorothy Schenk
Dorothy Schenk, of Mattoon, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Antigo. She was 95 years old. She was born on April 22, 1919, in Birnamwood, a daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Boettcher) Gast. She married Hurbert “Jim” Schenk on Jan. 24, 1937, in Shawano. He preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1974. She attended Regina Grade School in the town of Almon.

Bevelyn I. Thorne
Bevelyn I. Thorne, 82, of Oconto Falls, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, in Oconto Falls. Born on Nov. 24, 1931, in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of the late Bryon and Garnet (Revels) Moody. On Nov. 19, 1960, Bevelyn and Oscar S. Thorne were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with one son. Bevelyn was a former member of the River Valley Church, formerly known as Shawano Assembly of God Church.

Shawano native becomes Oconto Falls police chief
An Oconto County sheriff’s deputy with 16 years of law enforcement experience has been named police chief in Oconto Falls. The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the hire of Brad Olsen, of Bonduel, subject to a satisfactory psychological evaluation. He replaces Mike Roberts, who retired June 3 after 35 years with the department. Olsen, 38, is scheduled to begin his new job Oct. 20. Olsen grew up in Shawano.
