Vaughn LaBelle, 80, of Bowler, passed away on Oct. 13, 2014, in Shawano. Born on May 21, 1934, in the town of Bartelme, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Irene (Gardner) Vele. On June 27, 1992, Vaughn was united in marriage to Albert W. LaBelle in Milwaukee. Albert preceded her in death on April 17, 2007. Vaughn spent most of her life in the Bowler area. She enjoyed crafting and running the family food stand at powwows.

Bonduel Elementary School Tracy Albrecht’s kindergarten class has been learning about plants in science. We have learned all about the leaves, stem and roots and how they help plants. Our class has been out in the school forest to do some hands-on work and observation with many different kinds of plants.

Shawano Police Department Oct. 13 Police logged 26 incidents, including the following: Theft — A purse was reported stolen from Memorial Park, 909 S. Lincoln St. Accident — A pedestrian walking a dog was hit by a truck in the 100 block of East Division Street. No serious injury was reported. The pedestrian declined an ambulance.

Reaching Out About Depression and Suicide (ROADS) sponsored its third annual Candlelight Remembrance Gathering at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena on Tuesday. Organizers said the event was to help people whose lives have been touched by depression, mental illness or suicide to connect, heal and build hope for the future. About a dozen people attended. ROADS was founded in 2002.

Winds gusting as high as 52 mph caused power outages and other problems in Shawano and Menominee counties Tuesday afternoon. There were reports of trees down around the county and in Shawano, according to police. The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department reported it had received an estimated 40 to 50 weather-related calls by late afternoon. The Bonduel High School volleyball team swept Iola-Scandinavia in three games in Tuesday’s Central Wisconsin Conference-8 tournament game to make up for a poor performance in Saturday’s pool play.
