Roger C. Utke, 93, who had resided in Shawano and Marinette, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Manor Care in Shawano. He was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Shawano. Roger was a graduate of Shawano High School, Class of 1938. He enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1939 and was assigned to the Great Lakes Training Center and later San Diego for hospital corpsman school. He advanced to the U.S.

Sandra I. Martin, 70, of Bowler, passed away on Oct. 9, 2014, at her home after a long battle with cancer. Sandra was born July 14, 1944, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Frank and Agnes (Betterly) Richards. On July 13, 1987, Sandra was united in marriage to John J. Martin in Shawano. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness. Sandra enjoyed playing cards, working crosswords, doing puzzles and camping.

Miss Anna H. Brunner, 90, of Shawano, passed away quietly Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Kindred Hearts of Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Anna was born April 3, 1924, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Dillenburg) Brunner. Anna attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School in 1942. Following high school, she attended St. Catherine’s College, St.

Twenty-five vendors are expected Saturday as the Shawano Farmers Market wraps up its first season at Franklin Park. Market director Nathan Falk said the market has attracted more customers and vendors than in previous years. “We have attracted new vendors that have found our market pleasing,” he said.

A mobile food pantry will make two stops in the Shawano area next week. Feeding America Wisconsin and UnitedHealthcare will deliver food to Goodwill, 300 Lakeland Road, Shawano, from 3-5:30 p.m. Tuesday and the Community Resource Center, W3236 Wolf River Drive, Keshena, from 3-5:30 p.m.

Shawano Police Department Oct. 9 Police logged 23 incidents, including the following: Arrest — A 34-year-old man was taken into custody for a violation at the Probation and Parole offices, 1340 E. Green Bay St. Disturbance — Police responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of South Washington Street. Warrant — A 25-year-old man was taken into custody on a warrant at the Probation and Parole offices, 1340 E.

It is no secret that I have a love/hate relationship with telephones. I grew up on a farm where we had no telephones. As a child, it was no big deal. I never worried about emergencies, where it would be an advantage to be able to call for help. I am sure there were other emergencies, but the one I remember the most was when I broke my leg while in seventh grade.

The Legend Lake Property Owners Association’s mission is to preserve and protect the lake’s natural beauty, habitat, and residential and recreational opportunities. “We govern the lake property owners,” President Steve Vanden Heuval said. “We enforce bylaws that were put in place when the lake was formed.” The association got its start in the early 1970s on the lake that was developed in the ’60s.

Along with all the benefits of farming, which I would consider perks of this job, there are troubles that come along, too. Pondering that statement, I think that would just about cover any occupation. I was waiting for an empty wagon in the cornfield next to the woods one day and, looking around, noticed the view from my tractor cab was really quite amazing.
