Rusty Holman, 41, Stiles, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2014, at home as the result of an accident. He was born July 13, 1973, in Oconto Falls to Tom and Penny (Owen) Holman. Rusty grew up in Oconto Falls, where he attended public schools and graduated high school with the Class of 1991.

Roni Kay DuChateau, 62, Morgan, died Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2014, at Sharpe Care following a three-year illness with thyroid cancer. She was born June 9, 1952, in Shawano and lived with her family in Bonduel. As a little girl, Roni moved to Green Bay with her family and attended Green Bay public schools, graduating from Southwest High School with the Class of 1970. On Dec.

Christian “Christ” Deckert, 90, Oconto Falls, went home to join his wife and be with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Bellwood, Illinois, to Gottlieb and Maria Deckert. On Dec. 29, 1945, he married the love of his life, Olga Milchner, in Oconto Falls, and together they would spend the next 68 years working side by side while loving and caring for each other daily.

A masked man armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed an Abrams gas station just before 4 a.m. Sunday, taking an undetermined amount of money and cigarettes, according to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department. Abrams BP, 2513 E. Frontage Road, reported the robbery at 3:43 a.m. The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall and 180 pounds.

A resolution to raise the mileage rate for county employees 2 cents per mile was postponed by the County Board on Thursday. Employees are reimbursed at 54 cents per mile, 2 cents less than the IRS rate. The county Finance and Insurance Committee recommended matching the IRS rate, which would cost the county about $5,000 more each year. Supervisor Paul Bednarik said fairness was the issue.

To the editor: On the Nov. 4 election ballot, the Oconto Unified School District will ask voters to approve Referendum Question No. 2, which requests $1.5 million to install fire sprinklers in all three schools. I urge voters to vote “yes” to Question 2 for fire sprinkler protection in the schools. It is an important issue regarding the safety of the community’s children.
