Roni Kay DuChateau, 62, Morgan, died Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2014, at Sharpe Care following a three-year illness with thyroid cancer. She was born June 9, 1952, in Shawano and lived with her family in Bonduel.
As a little girl, Roni moved to Green Bay with her family and attended Green Bay public schools, graduating from Southwest High School with the Class of 1970.
On Dec. 2, 1972, she married Craig DuChateau at Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay. Following their marriage the couple lived in Pittsfield before moving to the town of Morgan in 1985. Roni worked in the family businesses, DMK and Chateau Apartments, which she managed.
She also served on the Oconto Falls School Board and once served as its president.
Roni loved her grandchildren, taking them to school, only after taking them first to McDonald’s, and then picking them up after their school day was done. She loved to bake, cook, knit, crochet and sew things, and made all her grandchildren special blankets from old blue jeans of hers and Craig’s that she saved over the years.
Survivors are her husband, Craig DuChateau, Morgan; their two children, Jami (Wesley Heise) Pagel, Morgan, and Kody (Carrie) DuChateau, Green Valley; six grandchildren, Gabriel, Madelin and Deegan Pagel, Dominic Heise, Gage and Keira DuChateau; two stepgrandchildren, Connor and Payton Heise; her mother, Delores Rymer, Green Bay; one brother, Mike (Melissa) Rymer, Suamico; two sisters, Vicky (Jim) Gollnick, Oshkosh, and Tracy (Gary) Lamers, Chilton; a very special friend, Chrissy Trepanier; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Rymer, and in-laws, Bernard and Pauline DuChateau.
Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation continued at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, until the time of service. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Paul Heykes officiating. Burial followed in the Town of Morgan Cemetery.
