The Oconto Falls High School boys cross-country team finished second at the WIAA Division 2 sectional Saturday in Tomahawk to advance to the state finals for the second straight year. Junior Bailey Wolf also will run in the state meet at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday after finishing fifth.

Gillett’s defense produced four key turnovers and senior Monte Noffke rushed for four touchdowns Friday as the Tigers advanced to Level 2 of the WIAA Division 7 football playoffs with a 39-13 win over Wild Rose. The Tigers will play at Almond-Bancroft (9-1, 4-1 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) Friday.

Seven members of the Oconto Falls High School cross-country teams were named to the All-Bay Conference squad Friday, led by senior Mike Friedman and junior Bailey Wolf. Friedman, who was selected to the team for the fourth consecutive year, was the top runner for the OFHS boys team, which won the conference title Oct. 16. “We have been working really hard all season and the bonding has grown from year to year,” Friedman said.

Three members of the Oconto Falls High School volleyball team were named to the All-Bay Conference squad announced Friday. Junior Emily Kilmer was named to the all-conference first team. She finished fourth in the Bay in points with 121, and also had 92 kills and five blocks. “She was our go-to hitter who dominated at times throughout the season,” Oconto Falls coach Rochell Otto said.

William Baptise Summers Jr., 68, of Appleton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014. Born Jan. 22, 1946 in Red Springs, he was the son of the late William and Imelda (Miller) Summers Sr. William worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton and in his free time he enjoyed doing word puzzles, cooking, baking, photography, and going to powwows.

Senior Hunter VanDerLinden broke the school’s rushing record, fellow senior running backs Hunter Berry and Dan Tauchen eclipsed 100 yards, and the Bonduel High School football team punched its ticket to the Level 2 playoffs for the second year in a row Friday with a 26-7 win over Colby in Bonduel. Bonduel, the No. 2 seed in its WIAA Division 5 bracket, had plenty of offense.
