David Marquardt, of Oconto, was among 47 cadets who were sworn in and received their badges as Wisconsin State Patrol officers during a graduation ceremony Dec. 19 in Madison. Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Cadets in the 60th recruit class began their training on July 13 at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy, located at Fort McCoy.

Book exchange boxes might be coming to the Oconto Falls community. At the Jan. 13 Oconto Falls City Council meeting, Aaron Gonnering is scheduled to present his Eagle Scout proposal to erect six Little Free Libraries in the community. The council meets at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 500 N. Chestnut Ave. Prior to the council’s meeting is a public hearing regarding the rezoning of 107 E.

The town of Spruce is seeking input regarding a proposed ATV/UTV ordinance that would connect to the trail system in the towns of Bagley and Brazeau and allow access to the Kwik Stop gas station. The ATV/UTV ordinance will be discussed by the Spruce Town Board at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the town hall, 9097 County Road B, Oconto Falls.

A 47-year-0ld woman on North Main Street reported a noise disturbance caused by a loud snowmobile on Dec. 19. A 55-year-old woman reported smoke was seen in the area of North Farm Road on Dec. 26. Officers detected no smoke in the area, although there was a heavy fog. A 20-year-old woman on North Farm Road reported she received harassing telephone messages on Dec. 26.

Proceedings from Dec. 30 Gage M. Giese, 20, Gillett, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of a sex registry violation from April 24 and Oct. 24 in Oconto. A $2,500 cash bond continues. The court is allowing him to return to Colorado but he must be in compliance with Colorado and Wisconsin sex registry requirements. A pretrial conference is Feb. 26. A preliminary hearing was held for Adam J.

Seven employees at Team Industries Inc. have dedicated 25 years of service to the company: Wendy Nitkowski, Tim Monday, Chris Voet, Gary VanderHeiden, Andrew Eiting, Tim Becker and Todd Daczyk. In a news release, Team Industries Inc. said these individuals are vital members of the company team and continue to contribute every day.

The No. 1 New Year’s resolution every year is to lose weight or exercise more. I am not a huge fan of setting New Year’s resolutions because I believe in setting goals for myself several times a year.

Perhaps Sunday night’s sudden deep chill that descended on the path around the Falls was Mother Nature’s way of getting residents in the spirit for Ice Bowl II, if that is to be the situation Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys return to Lambeau Field when the Packers host the next round of the NFL playoffs. That last post-season Lambeau Field meeting between the two teams took place 48 years ago. It was the stuff of which legends are made.
