No one else in Sadie (Neuenfeldt) Klemp’s family lived to be 100 years old and she did not expect to either. But she did, and an open house was held for her at the Aster Retirement Community of Clintonville on Saturday afternoon to observe her 100th birthday. Sadie grew up with a brother and sister on a farm, now owned by Rick and Mary Lohff, on County Road D north of Clintonville.

Ashley Bergsbaken, representing the Shawano County Fair, was named third runner-up Wednesday at the 92nd annual Wisconsin Association of Fairs Convention in Wisconsin Dells. Bergsbaken, 18, is the daughter of Dennis and Donna Bergsbaken, of Bonduel, and is a freshman the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse studying communications. A field of 39 contestants from county and district fairs throughout Wisconsin participated in the competition.

Jean M. Strommen-Stuckey, 86, a longtime resident of Evergreen Care Center in Shawano, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2015, at the Shawano Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Jean was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late Herman and Mabel (Gruenweller) Schmidt. She attended school in Milwaukee and was a graduate of Rufus King High School. On Jan.

Duane R. Kessen, 63, of Kenosha, formerly of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at his home. Duane was born Nov. 14, 1951, in Keshena, a son of the late Lee Kessen and Claudette (Law) Kessen Dodge. He attended school in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh West High School. Following school he entered the United States Army. He served in Vietnam, serving two tours of duty.

Lucille M. Peters, 94, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Shawano Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1920, daughter of the late Ernest and Louisa (Bubolz) Noack. On June 16, 1945, Lucille was united in marriage to Arvin Peters in the town of Cicero, and they enjoyed 63 years together. He preceded her in death Sept. 12, 2008. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

Gabrielle Tuma won $100 for her memorized speeches Thursday and could win more scholarship money in coming weeks. Tuma, a sophomore at Shawano Community High School, was the only person to compete Thursday in the annual local oratorical contest sponsored by Elefson-Zueske American Legion Post 117. With the win, she advanced to the county level of the American Legion’s National Oratorical Contest. The county competition will be held Jan.

After four days on the job, Shawano County’s new sheriff hasn’t had time to decorate the walls of his office, but he expects most of the space will be taken up with family photos. “I like seeing my family,” Adam Bieber said.
