I had the Packers glow for the first 55 minutes of Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Down by two scores, it seemed impossible for the Seahawks to win. However, the Packers found a way to lose. Not from lack of wanting to win, but it sort of slipped through their fingers due to some poor choices. I don’t blame any one player, or any one play.

Dorothy A. Kroenke, 92, of Shawano, died on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in the town of Belle Plaine. Dorothy was born on Aug. 13, 1922, in Shawano, the daughter of the late David and Aurelia (Moede) Beversdorf. She grew up on a farm and as a teenager was the Shawano County Dairy Princess as well as earning a scholarship to the Teacher’s College at Stevens Point, where she worked in the college library.

Terry Moede is the president of the Navarino Nature Center board of directors. He was born in Shiocton and graduated from Shiocton High School. He worked locally for a while, then went to school for law enforcement. For 33 years he worked for the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department. He started as a deputy sheriff, became a detective and retired as a detective sergeant. Moede and his wife, Pam, have been married for 17 years.

Contributions from Shawano Farmers Market supporters, and a matching $3,500 grant from the Harold E. Pevonka Trust, have earned the market $7,185, the market board reported this week. After learning about the matching grant opportunity, the board sent letters to individuals and businesses to let them know their contribution would, in effect, be doubled by the grant. The result was $3,685 in contributions from individuals and businesses from Oct.

Following a one-year hiatus, the Mooseyard Winterfest Bar Olympics return Saturday.
