I had the Packers glow for the first 55 minutes of Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Down by two scores, it seemed impossible for the Seahawks to win. However, the Packers found a way to lose. Not from lack of wanting to win, but it sort of slipped through their fingers due to some poor choices.
I don’t blame any one player, or any one play. Although it pains me to say it, in a way it seemed the Seahawks were destined to win, because as a team they did very little right until the last five minutes, and then even the last two minutes.
How often have we seen our Packers with perfect end-of-game ball control, but somehow things got out of control this week. I felt a little sad, a little cheated somehow, and yet in retrospect, only one team will achieve the ultimate goal, and fulfill their dreams, and those of the fans.
I look at sports as entertainment, and the Packers have given us a lot of that over the years. Win or lose, I am a fan. I have moved on.
I began sewing once again, though nothing fancy, merely sewing backs for the quilts for missions our church ladies are about to start sewing this year. After spending a couple of hours a day in my basement trying to turn varied sizes and types of material into quilt backs that measure at least 60-by-80 or larger, it proves to be quite a challenge for my mathematically deprived brain. I have a tape measure right on my sewing table, and yet I can easily get the measurement wrong.
Plus, it seems the fabric is usually just a bit too short for what is needed, so I have to find another bit to add on that blends well in color and type of material. It doesn’t work too well to add stretchy stuff to pieces that do not stretch — that I have learned through the years.
It is also time to recommit myself to getting to Total Fitness on a more regular basis. Being in physical therapy for the pain in my hip helps me get to Shawano and keeps me doing my prescribed exercises at home. Plus now that I am up and down stairs, that also helps keep me going.
Since this has not been a winter where I am snowed in (at least so far), I feel it is important to keep busy and not just sit around the house. Soon, I will have to get my papers together for taxes. It is also time to think about organizing some stuff in the house. So far, thinking is all I have done. The basement that I began to organize is now even fuller with the addition of several boxes of fabric from church that people donated for the making of quilt backs for the mission quilts.
So life goes on, and the football season is soon to end, with the basketball season in full swing. Soon the Brewers will be back in spring training, and high school baseball, softball and track will begin. Winter hasn’t quite lost its grip on Wisconsin, but it doesn’t take much to get my mind turning to spring.
My faith and trust are in God. As it says in Psalm 46:10a “Be still, and know that I am God.”
