Sandra A. Brenwall, 71, of Suring, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a long, seven-year courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Oconto Falls on April 21, 1944, to the late Richard and Nora Firgens and was eighth youngest of the nine children. Sandra graduated from Suring High School and married Lawrence “Red” Brenwall on Nov.

Boy Scout Aaron Gonnering from Oconto Falls Boy Scout Troop 1024 placed six Little Free Libraries in the city of Oconto Falls for his Eagle Scout project. A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Gonnering worked on the libraries over the summer and placed the libraries in mid-July.

A Gillett farm was honored as a Century Farm on Aug. 9 at the 2015 Wisconsin State Fair. The hobby farm of Julie and Jody Rost has been in the family for 117 years. Homesteading the property at 7283 Klaus Lake Road was William Siech, who purchased the land in 1898 from Northwestern Railway Corporation. William and his wife, Natalie, raised 11 children.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Concert Band will perform its fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Marinette High School Auditorium. The band is composed of adults who enjoy sharing their love of music with the public. Directors are Glen Reinke and Bob Berndt.

Proceedings from Oct. 8 An arraignment was held for Pauline M. Grundman, 61, Oconto Falls. She pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of injury by negligent use of weapon/explosive, party to a crime, and a misdemeanor charge, which allegedly occurred July 4 in Oconto Falls. A $2,000 signature bond continues. A plea hearing is Nov. 18. An arraignment was held for David M. Cameron, 44, Oconto Falls.

The Oconto Falls School District has found a buyer for Spruce School, an abandoned two-room schoolhouse on the market for the past three years. The School Board on Monday accepted an offer of $50,000, with the conditions the buyer be responsible for fixing the leaky roof and the school district be responsible for pumping the septic tank. Closing is scheduled at the end of October.

Oconto Falls will tap the “Beer Barrel Polka” for a community celebration signifying the end of street construction in the city. “Roll out the Barrels, We Have the Construction Blues on the Run” is the theme selected by the Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of state Highway 22 street reconstruction.
