Veterans Day ceremonies in Shawano County include events this week in Shawano, Bonduel, Keshena and Tigerton. In Shawano, a ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday inside the gymnasium at Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St. A school band is scheduled to perform the national anthem as well as service songs and hymns. Dennis Bohm will be the featured speaker.

Bringing local residents dinner and a show has been a fall tradition for Shawano Community High School’s music programs for many years. The tradition continues next weekend as the annual Dinner Dance Revue returns to the high school auditorium with familiar tunes performed by the school’s jazz band and the Showstoppers show choir.

Dana Joseph Grignon Sr., 68, of Neopit, passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at St Mary’s Hospital, Green Bay, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Dana was born on Dec. 29, 1946, to the late Jerome and Sunday (Tourtillott) Grignon in Shawano. He grew up on the Menominee Indian Reservation and attended Shawano High School. In 1964, at the age of 17, Dana enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

Sharon Ann Retzack, 57, formerly of Sheboygan, passed into eternal life on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Autumn Lane Assisted Living in Birnamwood. She was born in Sheboygan on Jan. 8, 1958, the daughter of the late Edward and June (Beyer) Retzack. She attended Sheboygan South High School. When Sharon was living in Sheboygan, she was employed at RCS Empowers. Her hobbies included needlework, cooking, jigsaw puzzles and puzzle books.

Edna Almeta Hughes, 97, was called to her Heavenly rest Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano. She was born on Dec. 30, 1917 in Colfax, Washington, the youngest daughter of Carl and Maria (Heinz) Lautenschleger. On Dec. 25, 1938, Edna was united in marriage to Wilbur James Hughes in St. John, Washington. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1995.
