Hearing about a family acquaintance who succumbed to cancer made Camryn Kraning feel a little sad. It also made her want to do something. Resch Lanes, 407 Howard St., Wittenberg, has received a facade grant totaling $2,122 through Shawano Country Vision 2017. The matching grant was awarded to help paint the front of the business and to purchase and install new signage. Jason and Jenny Resch purchased the eight-lane bowling center in 2008. The business includes a restaurant and bar. The Resches’ menu features broasted chicken and pork chops, homemade pizza and a Friday fish fry.

The local SAM 25 organization will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the SAM’s House shelter at 213 E. Green Bay St., Shawano. A house blessing will be conducted at 11 a.m. The shelter will officially open at 5 p.m. Sunday to provide a warm shelter and meals to homeless people. Luella Mildred Krueger, 96, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Birch Hill. Luella was born in the town of Richmond on July 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Theodore and Laura (Beversdorf) Meyer. On Oct. 21, 1944, Luella was united in marriage to Gilbert L. Krueger. Gilbert preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2001.

Inez C. Heling, 91, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Nov. 10, 2015, at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano. Inez was born on Feb. 3, 1924, in Shawano, a daughter of the late John and Ida (Gehrke) Bluemke. She attended Bowler High School. On Aug. 25, 1945, she was united in marriage to Elton Heling at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Following their marriage the couple lived in Shawano.
