Betty Jo Wozniak, 68, Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015. She was born in Oconto Falls on Nov. 8, 1947, to John and Hazel “Hashie” (Johnson) Wozniak. Betty Jo was a proud and devoted member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin. She worked for the tribe for over 30 years. For more than 15 years she was the tribal administrator.

We are turning the calendar to a whole new year, with all of the hopes and promises that a new year can bring. 2016 is going to also be a leap year. It seems weird to me as to how we get an extra day in a year now and then. After all, this is 2016, with all of the modern technology, and we still get that extra day. What is up with that? Many times the days between Christmas and New Year tend to drag by slowly.

We had such a lovely fall season this year, and the gentle temps that seamlessly flowed into December were just plain balm for my soul. I loved it! On the downside, though, the lady bugs were out in full force. They would show up in my sun-warmed kitchen window, crawling willy-nilly, without any real sense of direction or purpose. One day before disposing of it, I watched one.

The Clintonville Area Historical Society just celebrated its 40th anniversary. “We have gradually built a large and varied collection of historical items,” President Marilyn Berkvam said. The mission of the society is to collect, preserve, and disseminate materials and information relating to Clintonville and the surrounding area. There are three buildings at Pioneer Park. The log cabin was at Olen Park and about to be torn down.

Virginia Fietsch started the Clintonville Grief Support Group. She was born in Westmont, Illinois, graduating from Downers Grove High School. Fietsch earned a degree in music education from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and worked as a substitute teacher for a few years before marrying. Fietsch and her late husband of 35 years, John, then bought a ServiceMaster franchise and moved to Wisconsin.

Unofficially, the playoffs start on Sunday for the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers. Sure, border state bragging rights are on the line again in the regular-season finale. Another rushing title is within the grasp of Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson.

There were big shoes to fill on the Gresham High School boys basketball team when Christian Haffner graduated last year. The Central Wisconsin Conference-10 Player of the Year, who is playing for Marquette University this season, averaged 26 points per game in his final year. Surprisingly, the Gresham offense has continued to roll, with guard/forward Neal Cerveny stepping up to fill much of the void.

To the editor: A few weeks ago ThedaCare announced our termination of our Network Health Plan contract. Since then many people have contacted us with questions.
