Mattoon man gets 7 years for child enticement
A Mattoon man accused of trying to abduct a girl in Wittenberg in 2011 was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison after pleading no contest to a charge of child enticement. David W. Number of homeless students increases in Shawano
Midyear numbers for homeless students in Shawano School District have some officials concerned. Staff members tasked with being liaisons to homeless families informed the Shawano School Board on Monday that there have been 39 homeless students tallied in the first semester of the school year.

Felony theft A former Shawano woman has been charged with a felony count of theft for allegedly stealing more than $6,000 from the account of a developmentally disabled man for whom she had been appointed guardian. Brenda L. Tomow, 53, could face a maximum six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty. According to the criminal complaint, Tomow made numerous withdrawals from the account between Feb.

Hawks swimmers still undefeated
The Shawano Community High School boys swim team beat Lakeland Union 86-83 Tuesday in Minocqua to stay undefeated in the Great Northern Conference. Zach Soper won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. He finished the 50 in 22.31 and the 100 in 51.46. Christian Kane also earned a first for the Hawks, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.33. Hawks girls win at Seymour
The Shawano High School girls basketball team beat Seymour 44-37 in a Bay Conference game Friday in Seymour. The Hawks (4-10, 4-6 Bay) were led by Lyndsey Kurtz, who had 13 points and 13 rebounds. “She was monster underneath the boards,” Shawano coach Ryan Koenig said. “She was attacking the basket, getting offensive rebounds, all the defensive rebounds.
