A sharply divided Clintonville Common Council on Tuesday passed a no-confidence vote against Mayor Judith Magee after failing to override her veto of its decision to extend the city administrator’s suspension. The council voted 6-4 on May 27 to extend Lisa Kotter’s suspension and refer allegations of misconduct to the city’s labor attorney.

Anyone who might have been counting their backyard chickens before the city was done hatching its poultry ordinance can stop counting. A proposal that would have allowed Shawano residents to keep up to four chickens was roasted by a majority of the Common Council on Wednesday, a week after the Plan Commission recommended its approval. Mark L. “Sparky” Schwartz, 56, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at his home. Born on Jan. 25, 1958, in Shawano, he was the son of Kenneth and the late Carmen (Laux) Schwartz. Mark lived in Shawano for all of his life and was formerly employed by Weber and Schmidt Lumber.

Jacob Wudtke and Courtney Schmidt were honored as Bonduel High School Senior Athletes of the Year at the spring athletic banquet June 2 at the school. Wudtke, who played four years of football, wrestling and baseball, was a team captain in all three sports and a two-time state qualifier in wrestling. “He’s one of those guys, if you look in the dictionary under the word leader, they’d show a picture of him,” baseball coach Don Gruenewald said.
