Referendum asks Suring voters for $3.5M

With the cost of education at Suring School escalating faster than the funding to support it, the school district will ask voters Tuesday for an an extra $3.5 million over the next five years. Lynne Marie Rousseau
Lynne Marie Rousseau, 69, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away early Friday morning, March 20, 2015, at War Memorial Hospital. Lynne was born March 13, 1946, in Oconto Falls to the late Thomas and Orpha Kobes. Lynne married Reginald Rousseau on Dec. 12, 1965, in Brimley, Michigan. Lynne was an avid reader who passed on her love of reading to her family and enjoyed trading books with friends and family members.

Carolyn J. Mosal (Buchholz), 63, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born March 2, 1952, in Oconto Falls, the daughter of Harold and Dolores Buchholz. She was a 1970 graduate of Oconto Falls High School and attended Bellin School of Nursing. Carolyn lived in several different locations throughout her life; her favorite was the several years her family lived in Germany.

Donald DeTuncq
Donald “Deetz” DeTuncq, 77, Oconto Falls, died March 9, 2015, in a Green Bay hospital. He was born March 22, 1937, in West Bend to Walter and Meta (Held) DeTuncq. Deetz grew up in West Bend, where he graduated high school, and later attended Ripon College. As a young man he served in the National Guard. For most of his adult life, Deetz was an iron worker on large buildings in the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii.

Sallie Anne Davis
Sallie Anne Davis, 72, of Wrightstown, formerly of Mountain, passed away on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at her home. She was born in Abrams on Nov. 17, 1942, to the late Edward and Marjorie (Wescott) Longsine. Sallie graduated from Wabeno High School with the Class of 1961. She married Joel Davis in 1963, and for many years the couple lived in Mountain, where Sallie raised their three children, and moved to Wrightstown in 1995.

Norm Hogman
Norm Hogman passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Sharpe Care after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 65 and passed peacefully, due to the fine care from Sharpes. He will be buried at the family plot later this week. He will be missed very much.

Townsend announces centennial events
The town of Townsend will turn 100 years old April 4, 2016. Centennial Committee members Mary Campion, Dick Culver, Judi Fellows, Jean Fietzer, Kathleen Marsh, Barb Ouellette and Carla VanCamp have been busy for the past two years planning events to commemorate the occasion. The yearlong schedule of events begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Old Town Hall Restaurant on state Highway 32.

Going tube-free has consequences
There’s a very interesting commercial on TV that makes use of some amazing computer-generated art. The commercial is for toilet paper (or do you prefer “bathroom tissue”?), except that the ad doesn’t do anything to extol the virtues of the product.
